We all knew that Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy was fast. But now he can stake a claim for being one of the fastest football players of all-time.
At the NFL Scouting Combine today, Worthy posted a blazing 4.25 40-yard dash on his first run. It was the fastest time of the Combine so far and if made official would stand alone as the fifth-fastest 40-yard dash in history.
Notably, it is the fastest 40-yard dash ever set by a Texas Longhorns player. The previous mark by a Longhorn was 4.27, set by Marquise Goodwin back in 2013.
But Worthy wasn’t done.
Confirmed. Xavier Worthy is fast 👀

After posting his 4.25, he decided to run it again and that was when he tied the record of 4.22 set by John Ross back in 2017.
As of writing, the times are unofficial and it remains to be seen if he really can stake claim to the official record.
But the tape doesn’t lie: Xavier Worthy is FAST.
XAVIER. WORTHY.

Granted, straight line speed isn’t everything and the four fastest players to run the 40-yard dash are equally split between first-round picks and seventh-round picks. Very few of the players who rank in among the best at the 40-yard dash have managed to find NFL success at all.
But as they say: “You can’t teach speed.” And if Worthy can combine his speed with his already-impressive ball skills, he could be an extremely effective NFL wide receiver.
Last year Worthy enjoyed a career-year with 75 receptions for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns. He had 197 receptions for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns over his three seasons at Texas.
The NFL Scouting Combine is being shown on NFL Network.
UPDATE: Worthy’s 40 time has now officially been marked at 4.21 seconds, making it the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL history.
