Next up? The SEC Tournament
The No. 1 Texas Longhorns women’s basketball clinched a share of the Southeastern Conference regular season championship with their win over Florida (72-46) last night.
South Carolina (15-1), which claims the other half of the regular season title, was Texas’ only loss across the team’s first season in the SEC. But Texas (15-1) was also South Carolina’s only league loss. The tie then forced the two programs to revert to a coin toss for the No. 1 and 2 seeds in the upcoming SEC tournament. The Gamecocks won and will play from the No. 1 seed.
“At this point, I don’t think we care who we’re going to see next week [in the SEC tournament],” Longhorns head coach Vic Schaefer said, according to KXAN. “We’re just going to show up and play. What they’ve accomplished this year is amazing. I wanted this bad for them. It’s all I could think about for about two weeks, trying to get them home.”
Texas is now 29-2 overall on the season.
