Texas football was humbled last week
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian fielded questions this week during his most recent SEC coaches’ weekly teleconference call.
Highlights from the conversation can be found below, according to 247Sports.
“It’s a heck of a challenge on the field, but it’s obviously a challenge for us off the field too, from a mentality standpoint, coming off of the loss to Georgia last week,” Sarkisian said, reportedly referring to the team’s mental toughness and the wisdom he hopes they take from the program’s first Southeastern Conference loss as a member of the league.
“It’s a good test for us as a team, from a maturity standpoint, how we respond to some of the adversity coming off of a loss, but also preparing for a very tough opponent.”
But what did he observe in the team’s response following the Georgia loss at home?
“We’ve got a competitive locker room,” Sarkisian added. “We’ve got players that have great leadership, great competitive spirit about them. I think anytime you lose — real competitors, that leaves a bad taste in their mouth.
“I think we’ve got a football team that’s got something to prove. We’ll find out [on] Saturday if we walk into the game with a chip on our shoulder or not. We’ll find out where we’re at.”
Either way, Sarkisian’s program has come a long way since this:
