Despite the bye week, safety Andrew Mukuba is still listed as questionable.
Prior to Saturday’s matchup at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday against the Florida Gators, the Texas Longhorns released the team’s first conference-mandated injury report on Wednesday evening.
The notable update is that senior safety Andrew Mukuba, who practiced on Monday, according to head coach Steve Sarkisian, is listed as questionable with the left knee injury that he sustained late in the loss to Georgia nearly three weeks ago. So regardless of whether or not Mukuba suffered a setback during practice this week, his injury trend suggests that he could miss another game, potentially pushing sophomore safety Jelani McDonald into the spotlight again after a strong performance in his first career start against Vanderbilt.
The other significant short-term injury for Texas is the ankle injury that junior wide receiver Isaiah Bond suffered in the win over Oklahoma last month. Bond was able to play 60 snaps against Georgia, but missed the Vanderbilt game and is listed as probable. Like Mukuba, he was able to practice on Monday.
The addition to the injury report is redshirt freshman edge Colton Vasek, who is listed as questionable.
Redshirt senior defensive tackle Vernon Broughton is also out for the first half after the targeting penalty that was called against him late against the Commodores on the interception return for a touchdown by freshman cornerback Kobe Black that was negated by the penalty.
