The project will be completed in 2025
The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will once again face off in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas this coming weekend in one of college football’s most celebrated rivalries.
In other words, it’s almost time for this year’s Red River Shootout.
But while changes as part of the Cotton Bowl’s $140 million renovation won’t be obvious this coming weekend, by 2025, expect to see an entire renovation of the stadium, including additional escalators, an expanded concourse area, makeovers for restroom and concession areas, and, perhaps most suited for the year 2024, better Wi-Fi signal in stadium.
“… it’s a significant accomplishment for the whole team. It’s significant because we haven’t improved this building anywhere near this much in really, 60 years. It’s a great investment for the city of Dallas,” Bryan Trubey, a spokesperson during the project’s construction, told the Dallas Morning News.
Trubey was referring to how the project is the largest investment in the 94-year-old stadium’s history.
“It’s one of the signature elements, in my opinion, in the entire city — the iconic Cotton Bowl,” Ryan O’Connor, assistant director of partnership and strategic initiatives for Dallas Park and Recreation, told DFW’s Channel 5 earlier this year. “So it’s important that we continue to treasure it, invest in it and to make sure it’s got a great future.”
The final renovations are expected to be completed in 2025.
