Longhorns in the mix for one of the nation’s top tight ends.
Texas has begun to produce at the tight end position with guys like Ja’Tavion Sanders and Gunnar Helm stringing together very productive seasons as TE1 in Austin, and now we are beginning to see Texas big game hunt at the position nationally.
Four-star Bowdon (GA) tight end Kaiden Prothro announced earlier today that he has narrowed his recruitment down to five finalists, and the Longhorns found themselves among the five SEC programs that are still in contention for the nation’s second ranked tight end prospect.

Prothro hails from deep in the heart of Georgia, so it is no surprise to see the Bulldogs squarely in the middle of this recruitment. Prothro has clearly signaled with his finalist group that he intends on playing his collegiate career in the SEC, so now we will get to watch a recruiting blood bath take place as conference foes duke it out for his commitment.
Prothro already has one official visit to Florida set for June 13th and that likely won’t be the last one he puts on his summer schedule. The Longhorns certainly have a good pitch for tight ends given how much they are utilized within Steve Sarkisian’s offensive scheme, but this one seems like shoot your shot type of recruitment all things considered.
The Longhorns will likely get the opportunity to host Prothro this summer for an official, but a lot of things will likely have to go right for them to be perceived as the favorite in this recruitment.
