Cam Scott, the 4-star shooting guard from Lexington (S.C.) and Team United, committed to Texas on Friday.
Ranked the No. 5 shooting in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports.com, he also considered South Carolina, Auburn, Alabama, Oregon and Ole Miss.
“I’d like to make my commitment to the University of Texas,” he said on On3.
“I chose Texas because I felt it was the right place for me to grow the right way,” Scott added to On3.com. “Allowing me to come in and make mistakes that I will learn from in a comfortable organization that I have full trust in.”
As for what type of player he will be, he added:
“Smooth, being able to get to my spot and get my shots off. Running the floor in transition and affecting the game in multiple ways by playing the right way.”
The 6-foot-6 Scott was the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year last year when he averaged 19.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.4 steals and was recently named the Co-MVP of the Pangos All-American Tournament.
He visited Texas last Thanksgiving before the coaching change but the new staff led by Rodney Terry has gained ground in his recruitment.
