Texas’ Dillon Mitchell declared for the NBA Draft on Wednesday after averaging 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in 17 minutes per game last season.
Mitchell is a former top-five recruit in the class of 2022, heralded for his athletic and defensive abilities.
While Mitchell does mention he’ll be maintaining his college eligibility, many believe it’s simply to protect against an unexpected injury during the pre-draft process.
Mitchell is projected to be the 31st overall pick in ESPN’s latest mock draft.
Losing Mitchell is a signifigant loss in the frontcourt for the Longhorns, but the addition of five-star forward Ron Holland in their class of 2023 will make up for Mitchell’s departure.
Holland, a 6-foot-8 forward, is also known for being an athletic and versatile defender with an extremely high upside.
