ESPN projects four SEC teams land in the CFP’s top 12
ESPN recently released their latest projections for this year’s inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. The Texas Longhorns were predicted to land at the No. 5 seed this year.
Of course, per the CFP’s new seeding rules, that would suggest that Texas lost to Georgia, which ESPN projected to land in the CFP’s No. 3 seed, in the this year’s SEC Championship.
As ESPN notes, “The network does project the Texas Longhorns in the Top 12. ESPN lists the Longhorns No. 5. Texas controls its own destiny. If UT wins out in the regular season, they are all but assured a spot in the 12-team playoff. But troublesome games are ahead for a Longhorns team that seems vulnerable.”
Alongside Georgia (No. 3), Oregon (No. 1), Ohio State (No. 2), and Miami (No. 4) would earn the CFP’s first-round byes.
Altogether, four SEC teams are currently projected to land in the first 12-team CFP.
