Texas AD Chris Del Conte doesn’t believe there’s an SEC rivalry that can hold a candle to the Red River Showdown between the Longhorns and Sooners.
Appearing on Wednesday’s episode of “The Paul Finebaum Show,” Sports Business Journal’s Athletic Director of the Year attempted to make the case for why UT’s rivalry is the new best in town.
“Have you been to the Red River Rivalry yet?” Del Conte asked. “It’s ridiculous, it’s the greatest thing ever. They may talk about the Cocktail Party and the Iron Bowl. It’s nothing like this game at the State Fair.”
“You have 330,000 people outside,” the Longhorns AD continued. “Iron Bowl is awesome, don’t get me wrong. At night, it’s great. Same with the Cocktail Party. But this game is nuts.”

After Del Conte’s comments, Finebaum turned to Oklahoma’s Joe Castiglione, who was also on set, and said: “Joe, the University of Texas is not even an official member of the SEC and he’s already throwing shade at the Iron Bowl and the Cocktail Party.”
OU-Texas is easily in the conversation of best rivalries in college football — and sports for that matter.
This year the two schools will meet for the first time as SEC opponents on Oct. 12.
