The Horns will host the Bulldogs to open the 2028 season.
The 2028 non-conference schedule for the Texas Longhorns now includes a second opponent after the school announced the addition of a season-opening game against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Sept. 2.
The third game of a five-game series against the UTSA Roadrunners is the other game currently set for 2028 with the Horns hosting the system school on Sept. 16. Whether the Longhorns will play three or four non-conference games that season is still undetermined — the SEC is set for eight conference contests through 2025, but has not yet made any long-term decisions in that regard.
When Louisiana Tech comes to Austin in four years, it will mark the second all-time matchup between the two programs after the 45-14 win by Texas to open the 2019 season, a game that saw Longhorns quarterback Sam Ehlinger throw four touchdown passes and the defense force three turnovers.
Texas has marquee non-conference matchups scheduled for the 2025-27 seasons with a home-and-home series against Ohio State the next two years and Michigan coming to Austin in 2027. Arizone State is scheduled for a home-and-home series in 2032 and 2033.
