Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has perhaps the most interesting quarterback room in America. He has both a superb starting quarterback in Quinn Ewers and one of the highest-rated prospects that college football has seen since Vince Young, who just so happens to be the scion of the most iconic family in football in Arch Manning.
Fans have long wondered what kind of relationship Ewers and Manning have inside the Longhorns’ locker room. Appearing on College Sports Radio on Sirius XM, Sarkisian described the relationship between them as “very healthy” and one where they work together and push each other to be better.
“I don’t take that for granted,” Sarkisian said. “You know, there’s a lot of other schools out there with one guy and what happens if something happens to him? So again, we’re in a good spot and those guys are working hard, doing a great job and I think their rapport together, you know, the way they work together and push each other and make each other better. The relationship they have is very healthy.”
As far as who will be under center when the Longhorns take on Colorado State on August 31, Sarkisian indicated that the depth chart we saw last season is pretty much staying the same. Barring the unforeseen, Ewers will continue to start while Manning will receive spot duty and serve as one of the backups.
But also like last year, we can easily expect that fans will start clamoring for Manning to get reps if Ewers struggles. Luckily for Sarkisian and Ewers, that wasn’t really an issue last year.
