The Texas Longhorns are leaving a number of old rivals behind in their move to the SEC. But on top of maintaining their rivalry with Oklahoma, an old rivalry is about to be renewed with the team’s quarterback pledging victory in Year 1.
Appearing on Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman declared that it’s always been a dream of his to play and beat Texas. He declared that it’s “gonna happen” now that the two teams are in the same conference again.
“I mean I’ve always wanted to beat Texas,” Weigman said. “That’s a given. I don’t know if it was more after that, but yeah that’s a given, that’s gonna happen.”
Younger football fans might not be as familiar with it, but prior to Texas A&M leaving the Big 12 to join the SEC in 2011, they had played each other every single year since 1914 and 118 times in total.
The Longhorns lead the historic series by a wide margin with 76 wins to the Aggies’ 37. Five were draws.
The rivalry renews this year on November 30 in College Station. Will Weigman make good on his pledge to beat the Longhorns, or will he be eating humble pie this Thanksgiving?
