The Red River Rivalry will reportedly have a different start time when moving to the SEC this season.
According to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, the Oct. 12 matchup between Oklahoma and Texas will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. local time) on ABC or ESPN. The game has typically kicked off at 11 a.m. local time.
The Sooners and Longhorns both join the SEC in 2024, expanding college football’s most powerful conference to 16 teams. They’ll continue their annual feud when playing at Cotton Bowl Stadium this fall.
Oklahoma and Texas set up one of their most anticipated meetings when each squad entered the 2023 matchup 5-0. The Sooners earned a 34-30 victory behind 285 passing yards and 113 rushing yards from quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
Quinn Ewers completed 31 of 37 passes for 346 yards, but he also suffered his only multi-interception game of the season when tossing two picks. The Longhorns didn’t lose again until Washington eliminated the Big 12 champions in the College Football Playoff semifinal.
Oklahoma has won seven of the last nine Red River showdowns, but Texas maintains a 63-51-5 record in the long-running feud. Earlier this week, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte told Paul Finebaum that they’ll eclipse Georgia/Florida and Alabama/Auburn as the SEC’s top rivalry.
“Have you been to the Red River Rivalry yet?” Del Conte asked Finebaum at the SEC Spring Meetings. “It’s ridiculous. It’s the greatest thing ever. They may talk about the Cocktail Party and the Iron Bowl. It is nothing like this game at the State Fair.”
