Most recently at Indiana, Hunter worked for Miller during his first stint at Xavier.
New Texas Longhorns head coach Sean Miller has assembled his coaching staff with the addition of Kenya Hunter, according to a Friday report from Jeff Goodman of Field of 68.
Hunter most recently spent five years as an assistant under Mike Woodson at Indiana, including three years as the associate head coach.
Known for working with bigs and wings, Hunter had an impressive track record of success developing frontcourt players for the Hoosiers, helping Kel’el Ware bounce back from a disappointing freshman year with the Ducks by becoming the third Indiana player in the last 25 years to average at least 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during the 2023-24 season.
Five-star freshman Mackenzie Mgbako also earned Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors after averaging 12.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 33 starts.
The previous year, senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was a consensus first-team All-American honors, a first for an Indiana player in 10 years, and won the Karl Malone Award as college basketball’s top power forward, finishing his career third in school history in career scoring and double-doubles.
In Hunter’s previous stop at UConn, he helped secure consecutive top-20 recruiting classes and helped center Josh Carlton earn the AAC Most Improved Player Award in 2018-19.
Hunter began his coaching career at Duquesne, his alma mater, then served as the Director of Basketball Operations at North Carolina State.
Miller hired Hunter to work on his staff at Xavier from 2004-07 prior to stints at Georgetown and Nebraska.
