The SEC is adding two new teams this coming school year with the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns joining the fray. With the Sooners returning to form and Texas coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff, who does Paul Finebaum think is destined for a better first year in the conference?
Appearing on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Finebaum was asked who he thinks will have the better season between Oklahoma and Texas. Without missing a beat, he said Texas and explained that he feels the Longhorns roster is more SEC-ready. But he conceded that the schedule could favor Oklahoma more.
“Texas,” Finebaum said. “They’re better prepared for it and I think their roster is probably inherently better. I’ll defer to you guys, but I think it’s pretty obvious [with] what they have across the board. I think there’s some unknowns at Oklahoma.
“The schedules could be the equalizer because Texas’ schedule is challenging. Oklahoma’s is tricky. But, by the way, with the exception of maybe Missouri, we might be able to say that about everybody else in the SEC.”
There’s certainly going to be a lot more confidence among the Longhorns than among the Sooners.
Last year, Texas shocked the world by going into Tuscaloosa and defeating Alabama – and they’re bringing back a strong core of players that helped in the effort, including star quarterback Quinn Ewers.
Which of the two teams do you think will be better equipped to win in their first SEC season?
