Only two teams in college football are projected to have both a top five offense and a top five defense this coming season. Fortunately for us fans, they play each other in the regular season…
According to ESPN’s Heather Dinich, ESPN Analytics projects that Georgia and Texas will be the only two schools to boast top five units on both sides of the ball.
The two teams square off on October 19 at Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium for their first regular season meeting since 1958.
“Georgia and Texas are the only schools projected by ESPN Analytics to have top-five units in BOTH offense and defense. No, it’s not too early to be excited for that game,” Dinich wrote.
Texas and Georgia finished No. 3 and No. 4 respectively in the final AP poll of the 2023 season. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time in over a decade while Georgia avenged their College Football Playoff snub by annihilating Florida State in the Orange Bowl.
Now the Longhorns are members of the SEC, where the conference will no longer have divisions, and Georgia are seen as the top dogs (no pun intended) now that Nick Saban no longer graces the sidelines for Alabama.
Will both of these teams be among the top five in college football next year?
