Roughly 24 hours after Texas A&M fell short to Tennessee in the College World Series, Jim Schlossnagle agreed to a deal that’ll make him the next baseball coach at Texas.
There were rumors linking Schlossnagle to Texas before the championship series ended. He was actually asked about leaving College Station on Monday night, but he was snappy with the reporter who brought up that possibility.
“I think it’s pretty selfish of you you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn’t changed in my mind,” Schlossnagle said.
“That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking [Braden] Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft. I understand you’ve got to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job and I poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I gave this job every ounce I could possibly give it. So write that.”
Well, those comments didn’t age well. Now that Schlossnagle has left Texas A&M behind, he has issued an apology to the reporter who he berated.
“He asked the question that was an obvious question. I wish I could have answered that better, but in the moment, all of 30 minutes after the last pitch, all I could think about was our kids, and I really wasn’t in the mood to talk about myself for the future, so I apologize for that to Richard,” Schlossnagle said.
Baseball fans aren’t exactly buying this apology from Schlossnagle.
At this point, Schlossnagle can’t do much to erase what happened. All he can really focus on is his future in Austin.
