Plus: Texas WBB beat UTRGV
It stung even worse the second time the Texas Longhorns lost to Georgia this season, with the second loss coming at the cost of the Longhorns claiming the SEC Championship in the programs’ inaugural season. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and players felt it more than anyone.
“We had a real come-to-Jesus meeting after the SEC Championship game when we essentially lost that game because of penalties,” Sarkisian said this week on a Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl teleconference, according to Inside Texas. “We just said we’re not going to do that anymore. We’re going to play as clean football as we can play, as fundamentally-sound football as we can play. We’ll still be aggressive, we never want to lose our stinger, we never want to lose our aggressiveness, but we can play smarter.”
And they did the following the week, when the Longhorns stomped Clemson in the College Football Playoff’s opening round.
