One day after his Texas A&M team lost to Tennessee in the final game of the College World Series, Jim Schlossnagle is leaving College Station for Austin.
According to multiple reports, Schlossnagle will become the new head coach of Texas baseball, replacing David Pierce, who was fired on Monday after eight seasons.
In the wake of Schlossnagle jumping sides in the rivalry, his response Monday night to a question about the Texas rumors is going viral.
“I think it’s pretty selfish of you you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn’t changed in my mind,” Schlossnagle said.
“That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking [Braden] Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft. I understand you’ve got to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job and I poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I gave this job every ounce I could possibly give it. So write that.”

One can understand why Schlossnagle would have been a little bit on edge after just losing the national championship by one run, but he still comes off looking extremely poorly here.
It’s never a good thing for a head coach to definitively say they wouldn’t leave for another program, particularly with how quickly things change in the hiring world.
Schlossnagle is surely going to be asked about the hiring process and this exchange in his intro presser at UT.
