The Longhorns head to Fayetteville in good health.
After a 49-17 victory over the Florida Gators last Saturday coming out of the season’s second bye week, the No. 3 Texas Longhorns are in strong health with a trip to Fayetteville to play the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend.
On Wednesday’s injury report, the first of the week mandated by the SEC, the new addition is senior linebacker Mo Blackwell, who is listed as doubtful with an injury sustained this week. Blackwell is the fourth of fifth linebacker in the rotation for the Longhorns, behind sophomore Anthony Hill, sophomore Liona Lefau, and super senior David Gbenda while competing with freshman Ty’Anthony Smith for playing time. This season, Blackwell is credited with 21 tackles.
Redshirt freshman edge Colton Vasek could miss another game this week — he did not play against Florida with an injury and is currently listed as doubtful. Vasek has six tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and a quarterback hurry this season.
For Arkansas, the injury news centers around some key players on offense — quarterback Taylen Green and running back Ja’Quinden Jackson, the Texas and Utah transfer, are both listed as probable, while 6’1, 250-pound running back Braylen Russell is listed as questionable.
Pittman sounded optimistic about Jackson’s ability to contribute during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
”He’s healthy, he’s ready to go. He’s looked really good in practice, and I expect him to go out there and play at full strength and full speed, and and it’s good to have him back,” said Pittman.
The Arkansas head coach was less confident about Green.
“I think he’ll come out tonight as probable on the injury report. I can tell you he hasn’t been full speed last week during our practices. He’s getting better every day. I love Taylen. Obviously, he gives us a chance to win each and every game. What a wonderful kid. I feel like he’ll be ready to go,” said Pittman.
