Whoops
The Georgia Bulldogs beat the Texas Longhorns 30-15 in Austin over the weekend.
If you’re reading this, you know this. Let’s assume that much.
But despite Georgia head coach Kirby Smart’s squad getting in more than its fair share of crushing hits against Texas on Saturday, Smart decided to take one more shot last night.
Only… against the game’s referees, after their call reversal following Texas fans throwing beer cans on the field. Granted, the Southeastern Conference agreed that the referees made the correct decision, as Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron didn’t make contact with Georgia receiver Arian Smith prior to the Texas defense’s interception and return.
“I won’t comment because I want to respect the wishes of the SEC office,” Smart said after he was asked about the event. “I will say now we have a precedent that if you throw a bunch of stuff on the field and endanger athletes, that you’ve got a chance to get your call reversed.”
SEC has fined Texas $250,000 for fans throwing trash on the field. Fans will be identified via footage and banned from Texas athletics events for remainder of 2024-25 athletics season. pic.twitter.com/s8tDMLPgBD
