The Longhorns open SEC play as huge favorites over the Bulldogs.
The No. 1 Texas Longhorns have plenty of momentum heading into its first season in the SEC following a 4-0 start in which head coach Steve Sarkisian’s team has out-scored its opponents 191-22 and that’s expected to continue as the 1-3 Mississippi State Bulldogs come to Austin next weekend as 35.5-point underdogs, according to FanDuel.
As a six-day selection, the game time and television were also announced on Sunday with kickoff set for 3:15 p.m. Central on SEC Network.
Under first-year head coach Jeff Lebby, Mississippi State is off to a 1-3 start with a 56-7 win over Eastern Kentucky in the season opener followed by a 30-23 loss to Arizona State, a shocking 41-17 defeat by Toledo, and a 45-28 loss to Florida on Saturday that included a season-ending shoulder injury suffered by starting quarterback Blake Shapen.
The SEC opener marks the fifth meeting between the two programs with each team winning two games. In the last matchup in 1992, No. 21-ranked Mississippi State beat John Mackovic’s No. 25-ranked Texas team 28-10 in Austin as the Bulldogs ran for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
