Nicolas Codie, the four-star, 6-foot-9 power forward from Carrollton (TX) Newman Smith and the Southern Assault Adidas program, has committed to Texas, he told ZAGSBLOG ahead of his public announcement.
Ranked the No. 10 power forward in the Class of 2024, Codie chose the Longhorns over Auburn, Miami, LSU, TCU and others.
“I chose Texas because it felt like home,” he said. “Great team with great coaches who show me love more then anybody and why not be great in your home state?”
He called himself a “versatile” player who can “defend multiple positions, find mismatches inside, space the floor out with the three, and finish. I can create for my teammates [and I’m] also a big leader on the floor.”
He said he hopes to lead the Longhorns to big things in 2024-25.
“I just feel I can bring a national championship to Texas,” he said on On3 with Joe Tipton.
As for who else he’s recruiting, Codie told ZAGSBLOG, “I am recruiting Tre Johnson to join me.”
Johnson, the five-star wing from Link Academy (MO), is down to Texas and Baylor and may wait until the spring.
“I want to see what everybody has coming and how I could be used and which place is the best option,” he told 247. “It’s about what is best for me. It doesn’t really matter who somebody might go out and get or the transfer portal, we all have to fight for that one spot and I feel like if you are doing that against good guys and you get that spot then you are getting better overall.”
