Savion Red has reportedly chosen his new school.
According to Joe Cook of Inside Texas, the former Longhorns running back is transferring to Nevada.
Red joins Texas as a three-star recruit out of Grand Prairie High School in 2022. He collected six receptions for 34 yards during his first season without receiving a single carry.
As a sophomore, Red turned 30 handoffs into 131 yards and a touchdown. He gained 72 of those yards in a 57-7 victory over Texas Tech to close the regular season
Although he played in the Big 12 Championship Game, Red didn’t touch the ball during a College Football Playoff loss to Washington.
Red spent most of his two seasons watching star running backs Bijan Robinson and Jonathon Brooks. Both are now in the NFL, but CJ Baxter and Jaydon Blue return to a Longhorns offense that averaged 188.4 rushing yards per game in 2023.
Rather than follow Texas to the SEC, Red reunites with Jeff Choate in Nevada. The former Longhorns defensive coordinator replaces Ken Wilson as head coach after consecutive 2-10 seasons.
Red isn’t the first player Choate has poached from Steve Sarkisian’s backfield. Ky Woods, who saw scarce action on special teams as a sophomore, committed to Nevada last month.
The Wolf Pack ranked 129th out of 133 FBS football teams with 17.3 points per game in 2023. They averaged just 3.4 yards per carry, so Red could make a difference for his new Mountain West Conference team.
