If Jim Schlossnagle thought all the outside noise surrounding his decision to leave Texas A&M for Texas would quiet down by now, then he seriously underestimated the program’s fan base.
Schlossnagle accepted an offer to become the next baseball coach at Texas shortly after the College World Series came to an end. Before that became official, there were rumblings about him joining the Longhorns. He tried his best to defuse the rumors, even if it came at the expense of an innocent reporter.
“I think it’s pretty selfish of you you to ask me that question, to be honest with you. But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn’t changed in my mind,” Schlossnagle said.
Well, things have taken a turn since then. A former Texas A&M player has accused Schlossnagle of using ” burner phones” to recruit players to Texas.
Former Aggies outfielder JB Moss claims Schlossnagle was recruiting for the Longhorns while the championship series was going on.
“More will come out, but recruiting kids to Texas from burner phones while playing in the national championship is all time greasy,” Moss wrote on X this Wednesday.
If this is true, that’s an awful look for Schlossnagle. On the other hand, if Moss is wrong, that’s an equally bad look on his end.
Sooner or later, Schlossnagle will have to address this rumor.
