You can take a quarterback out of Ohio State, but in the case of Quinn Ewers you clearly can’t take Ohio State out of the quarterback.
Speaking at SEC Media Days, Ewers was asked about Texas’ Week 2 game against the Michigan Wolverines at Michigan Stadium. Ewers said that he was excited for the game but surprised some folks by referring to the Wolverines as “The Team Up North” – the Buckeyes’ nickname for the Michigan team.
“Going up to The Big House, it’s gonna be an awesome environment,” Ewers said, via Inside Texas Football. “The place is gonna be rocking, especially all the hype because it’s an early game. They’re coming off a really big win – the national championship. Yeah, The Team Up North.”
Ewers spent the 2021 season with the Buckeyes after being recruited by Ryan Day out of Carroll Senior High School. He transferred after one season, but not before getting a chance to visit Michigan Stadium during the Buckeyes’ 2021 game in Ann Arbor.
Fans on social media were delighted to see that Ewers still has that “Buckeye culture” ingrained in him despite being part of the team for such a short time.
“That Buckeye culture is still hard wired in him,” one user on X wrote.
“Quinn is now a Heisman trophy win away from Ohio State fans claiming him,” another fan joked.
“He might’ve been in Columbus for 3 seconds but it’s still embedded in his brain,” a third declared.
We’ll see if Ewers can do what the Buckeyes have struggled to do on September 7 and actually beat the Wolverines.
