As Arch Manning’s uncle Peyton can attest, no quarterback is too great to lose their job due to an injury. Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers could be set to learn that in the hardest way possible.
In the second quarter of today’s game against the UTSA Roadrunners, Ewers went down with what appeared to be a non-contact injury after completing a pass. He was limping as he left the field and had to be assisted on his way to the medical tent and according to Athlon Sports, he will not return to the game.

But after Manning replaced him under center, he promptly led the Longhorns on back-to-back touchdown drives.
His very first pass was a 19-yard touchdown and on the second play of his second drive, he pulled off a 67-yard touchdown run. Neither Peyton Manning nor Eli Manning ever had a run of longer than 33 yards in either of their college or NFL careers.
Having seen what Manning can do when he lets loose, fans have all come to the same conclusion: Ewers may never get his job back:
“Congratulations to Quinn ewers in a good college career it was a good run buddy you aren’t getting your job back,” one user wrote on X.
“Arch is going to make it VERY hard to give the job back to Quinn Ewers,” wrote another.
“Quinn Ewers might not get that job back,” a third wrote.
NFL history is filled with stories of great quarterbacks who lost their jobs and later their roster spots due to injuries. Drew Bledsoe lost his to Tom Brady, Drew Brees lost his to Philip Rivers and Peyton Manning lost his to Andrew Luck just to name a few.
Have we seen the last of Quinn Ewers on the field for Texas?
