Even though Quinn Ewers is back at quarterback for Texas this upcoming season, that doesn’t mean everyone thinks he will start every game.
Andy Staples thinks Arch Manning will start a game for Texas this upcoming season, despite Ewers being QB1. He says it has more to do with Ewers getting hurt in recent years.
“This one I would prefer not to come true because I do not wish ill on any player,” Staples said, via On3. “I certainly don’t want Quinn Ewers to get hurt. But the reality is Quinn Ewers missed three games to injury in 2022. He missed two games to injury in 2023.”
If Ewers does have to miss a game during the 2024 season, Manning would be next in line to play. This is Manning’s second season with the program and finished the 2023 season with only 40 passing yards.
He was used sparingly because Ewers was healthy for most of the season.
Manning continues to develop nicely for the program and will eventually be ready to start full-time once Ewers goes to the NFL.
Texas will be a top contender to win it all this season after making the College Football Playoff this past season.
