After guiding Texas A&M to a 53-15 record and two College World Series appearances in his first three seasons, Aggies head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle reportedly has a decision on his hands.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Schlossnagle is weighing his options between staying with A&M or leaving for the Texas opening.
As the insiders note, Schlossnagle and Longhorns athletic director Chris Del Conte have a relationship that dates back to their days at TCU and he could make his decision as soon as Tuesday night.
Aggies brass is said to be doing everything in its power to get the the 53-year-old to return to College Station but its definitely on the board that Schlossnagle could leave for the school’s rival.
The Longhorns would have to pay roughly $3 million to buy him out plus whatever financial commitment they plan to make towards him to lure him to Austin.
It’s worth noting that Schlossnagle berated the “selfish” reporter that asked him about the potential jump to UT at his exit press conference.
I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn’t changed in my mind. I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job, and I’ve poured every ounce of my soul into this job, and I’ve given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it. Write that!
