A day after falling to Tennessee in the College World Series, Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle has reportedly accepted a new job.
According to Chip Brown of Horns247, Schlossnagle is leaving the Aggies to become the new head coach of the Texas Longhorns. Texas parted ways with David Pierce after eight seasons on Monday.
Schlossnagle spent 17 years at TCU before joining Texas A&M in 2022. He worked eight of those seasons alongside athletic director Chris Del Conte, who currently holds the same role at Texas.
The Aggies came close to winning their first national title in franchise history. They won three straight College World Series games to secure a spot in the best-of-three final series.
After splitting the first two games, Texas A&M and Tennessee played a winner-take-all matchup on Monday night. The Aggies scored two runs in each of the final two innings, but their late comeback wasn’t enough to avoid a 6-5 loss at Omaha.
Following Monday’s loss, Schlossnagle called a reporter “selfish” for asking about rumors of a “specific job opening.”
“I left my family to be the coach of Texas A&M,” Schlossnagle said. “I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn’t changed in my mind. That’s unfair to talk about something like that. … I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job, and I poured every ounce of my soul in this job, and I’ve given this job every single ounce I could possibly give it. So write that.”
Schlossnagle will reportedly take over a Texas program that went 36-24 this season. The Longhorns lost an extra-innings game to the Aggies before being eliminated in the NCAA regionals earlier this month.
