Arch Manning crossed an important individual milestone off his list on Saturday.
The Texas redshirt freshman threw his first career touchdown pass, a five-yard connection with wide receiver Silas Bolden, late in the third quarter against Colorado State.
Manning took a snap in shotgun and after surveying the field, stepped up in the pocket and took off as he was about to run.
At the last second, Manning looked to his right and tossed the ball to Bolden in the flat, who took it in for six points.
Manning, who appeared in two games and completed 2-of-5 passes in 2023, got the call to relieve Quinn Ewers (20-of-27, 260 yards, three touchdowns, one INT) after Texas had built up a 38-0 lead.
The former five-star recruit connected with Johntay Cook II on a 40-yard pass to set up his eventual scoring throw to Bolden.
Manning completed his first four passes for 65 yards.
As long as Ewers continues to play well and Texas is winning, Manning will remain QB2. But if Ewers, a potential 2025 NFL Draft pick, slips up, cries for Peyton and Eli’s nephew will intensify.
Today was a tune-up for the No. 4 Longhorns. They will face a much stiffer challenge next Saturday on the road in Ann Arbor against the defending national champions.
