The Horned Frogs are lowest rated Big 12 team in the NCAA metric
The NCAA released the first official NET Rankings for the 2024-25 Men’s Basketball campaign and it is ugly for the Horned Frogs. TCU Basketball opens the metric ranking 121st overall and dead last in the Big 12.

The NET (NCAA Evaluation Tool) was implemented by the NCAA in 2018 as a better method of comparing teams than the previously used RPI, which only accounted for winning percentage and that of your opponents. The NET sorts teams into buckets (or “Quadrants”) for purposes of properly weighting and comparing resume performance. The system gives value to who you play and defeat (quality of win – particularly away from home) and the scoring efficiency (net points per 100 possessions). Beat good teams by a bunch to move up, lose to bad teams by a bunch to move down.
The Horned Frogs dropped both games of the Acrisure Invitational in Palm Springs, CA last week, losing to Santa Clara (#124) & Colorado State (#207), rating as Quad 3 & Quad 4 losses respectively. TCU will have plenty of opportunity to make major jumps in this metric, as only one remaining game qualifies as Quad 4 (vs. South Alabama on December 16). This week’s games against #103 Xavier and #62 Vanderbilt have become must-win opportunities as TCU attempts to re-build a Tournament resume from the Big 12 basement.
The Big 12 features nine teams in the Top 50 and 14 teams in the Top 100, with Oklahoma State joins the Frogs as the league’s black sheep at present. TCU opens Big 12 play December 30 at the Arizona Wildcats.
