TCU Women’s Basketball just wrapped up its toughest stretch of the regular season with five straight games against Quad 1 opponents that have been ranked in the AP Top 25 this season, with three of these games coming in the league’s toughest road environments. The Horned Frogs went 3-2 though that gauntlet, with wins over Utah, Baylor, and at Iowa State while falling at Oklahoma State and Kansas State. While the 3-2 mark through this stretch is respectable, failing to pick up wins in those major opportunities vs. the Cowgirls and WIldcats hurt the Frogs’ ability to make meaningful movement in the rankings or projected seeding. TCU is still holding steady as a top-16 squad earning a precious top-4 seed, but that position has littler buffer and could be in jeopardy if there is a slip-up vs. a team from the bottom of the Big 12. On paper, the Frogs get a bit of schedule relief this week, returning to Schollmaier Arena for a pair of games vs. sub-80 NET teams in Texas Tech & BYU. These Q3 contests are now must-wins to maintain the lofty status the Frogs have earned this season. So how did the rest of the contenders for the top seeds perform this week (spoiler: very well!)
Note: All rankings are NET unless otherwise noted
Impact Game of the Week:
#12 West Virginia def #28 Oklahoma State – The Cowgirls were coming off a four-game winning streak, including a dramatic win at home over the Horned Frogs before the ever challenging road trip to Morgantown where the Mountaineers delivered a devastating 17-point beatdown. WVU is now even with OSU at 8-3 in league play, sitting fourth in the Big 12 standings with games in February against each of the top three squads. The ‘Eers impressive showing sets the stage to make a big run towards a Big 12 Title and a sprint to the top of the bracket
Climbing:
#20 Baylor Bears (↑5) – Baylor followed up its loss in Fort Worth with a series of blowout victories, blasting Cincinnati by 39 and Houston by 45. These are the kinds of results that the NET metric loves even as these qualify as only a Q3 & Q4 game respectively. The Bears still have three Q1 opportunities, including hosting the Horned Frogs in the season finale, giving plenty of room for the Bears to continue this climb and begin jumping seed lines.
Falling:
#22 Vanderbilt Commodores (↓4) – It was a week of squandered opportunity for the ‘Dores. Following four straight wins, Vandy was set to face two elite Q1 opportunities, hosting #14 Ole Miss & a road trip to #3 Texas. A pair of wins would’ve vaulted it way up the ranks, even a split would’ve been impressive, but instead Vanderbilt got destroyed in both contests and has fallen back to the pack with only two more Q1 games remaining for a chance to return to the top-4 seed conversation.

It was another very successful week at the top of the Women’s Basketball world, only six losses across the top 32, with Minnesota’s home loss to Iowa being the only one coming to a lower-ranked team. That win catapulted the National Runners Up back into this top 32 in the NET and likely off the Bubble for the moment. Still was minimal movement within the top 16, but with another loaded slate of games this weekend, the bracket will continue to take shape.
