Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s departure from college basketball into the WNBA has opened the door for other women’s college hoops stars to break into the spotlight.
Maddie Scherr, a women’s college basketball guard at TCU, could be one of those players. The former Kentucky Wildcats women’s college basketball guard transferred to the Horned Frogs program this offseason. Scherr was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of high school, playing for her home state. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game last season. She’s a career 31.5 percent shooter from the 3-point line. And while Scherr has been standing out on the court, she’s been blowing up on social media.
The TCU Horned Frogs guard has more than 50,000 followers on Instagram.
Scherr announced her transfer to TCU earlier this summer.
“Bluegrass girl for life! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to play for my home state with such an amazing community of support behind me. I have loved being part of this program and am forever grateful for the relationships and memories made. I do not take for granted any moment I got to wear Kentucky on the front of my jersey,” she wrote.
“With that being said, I’m closing the chapter on my time at Kentucky. Thank you again to all the fans and people who have helped me along the way.
“One last go around in Texas! 💜”
Scherr will have a very popular teammate at TCU, too. She’ll be joined by former LSU and Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith in the backcourt for the Horned Frogs.
The duo has combined for some popular TikToks.

It’ll be fun to watch Scherr and Van Lith in the backcourt this season.
