The Horned Frogs have a Friday night Big 12 battle
The TCU Horned Frogs (3-2; 1-1) continue Big 12 play hosting the Houston Cougars (1-4; 0-2) under the Friday Night Lights of Amon G. Carter Stadium.
Houston made a coaching change after its first season in the Big 12, relieving current TCU Analyst Dana Holgorsen of his duties and bringing in former Tulane coach Willie Fritz to lead the Cougars. It’s been a rough start to the Fritz tenure, including consecutive shutout losses to open Big 12 play. Houston did pick up a win against Rice to bring back the Bayou Bucket and gave Oklahoma a tough game in Norman. The UH defense has been stout, ranking as one of the top units nationally in yards per game allowed. Offensively the Cougars have struggled mightily with turnovers, with QB Donovan Smith throwing five interceptions already this season, with only two touchdown passes.
TCU has demonstrated turnover issues as well with an accumulation of fumbles added to the four Josh Hoover interceptions. Aside from those picks, Hoover has been phenomenal to start the season, currently ranked third nationally in total passing yards and adding 14 pass TDs. His top target Jack Bech was recently added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list, as his 35 receptions for 647 yards and six TDs has him on pace for the best pass-catching season in TCU history. Surrounded by additional weapons Eric McAlister, JP Richardson, and Savion Williams, the TCU pass game is one of the deadliest in the nation.
