The sophomore quarterback spread the ball around, amassing 402 yards and four touchdowns.
Although it was extremely tempting to anoint Jack Bech as the Frog of the Week for the second time this season, the honor will instead go to his counterpart, quarterback Josh Hoover. It now goes without mentioning, but the Hoover-to-Bech connection is lethal. Against the UCF Knights, the senior received hauled in nine passes for 200 yards and a score. Topping his week one performance of six receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown against Stanford wasn’t expected just 15 days later. Nevertheless, Bech did it. He beat UCF defenders deep, broke tackles underneath, and made plays out of nothing. The former LSU Tiger has ascended to Hoover’s favorite target after beginning the season as a reserve.

Besides Bech, senior receiver Savion Williams put on a show of his own. He caught four passes for 37 yards, but two of those receptions were otherworldly touchdown catches. Williams first touchdown was a textbook jump ball. At the X receiver position, Williams ran a simple go route, first beginning with an outside release then coming back inside to beat the cornerback. While the route was crisp, a UCF safety came over to make a play on the lofted pass. Between two defenders, Williams high-pointed the ball to make one of the best grabs of the season. Terrific grab by Williams, but also a fantastic throw by Hoover. The sophomore quarterback placed the ball in a spot where only his 6-foot-5 receiver could grab it.

Williams’ next touchdown reception came from a porous throw by our Frog of the Week. With a 14-7 advantage, Hoover hit Williams on a routine post over the middle of the field. However, despite the amount of separation Williams generated, the ball was throw far behind the star receiver. The lanky wideout made a crazy adjustment, halting his momentum and turning his body to make yet another unbelievable touchdown.

Two incredible throws and one bad throw (for a touchdown) doesn’t come close to summarizing Hoover’s stellar day. The sophomore quarterback completed 35-of-52 passes for 402 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Hoover now ranks third in the nation in passing yards, 11th in passing touchdowns, and 23rd in completion percentage despite throwing the ball the fourth-most times this season. The only thing that would’ve made Hoover’s fantastic showing even better is a win. TCU fell 35-34 behind a ravage fourth quarter comeback from the Knights.
