Just eight months ago quarterback Max Duggan led TCU on an improbable national title game run that included a second-place finish in the Heisman Trophy voting. But that doesn’t translate to an NFL roster spot.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Los Angeles Chargers are waiving Duggan. The former 239th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft will have to wait until the middle of the week to learn if he’ll be added to a practice squad or another roster.
“The #Chargers are waiving rookie QB Max Duggan, per source. The former TCU star will be an interesting one to watch on waivers,” Pelissero wrote.
Duggan went 12-2 as a starter in 2022, completing 63.7-percent of his passes for 3,698 yards and 32 touchdowns along with another 423 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

Max Duggan helped lead TCU to the first win by a Big 12 school in the College Football Playoff since the tournament’s inception, knocking off Big Ten champion Michigan in a 51-45 Fiesta Bowl win.
But his heroics didn’t translate into the measurables that NFL teams were looking for and he wound up being a fringe NFL prospect by most scouting reports.
Will Duggan play in 2023?
