TCU’s defensive backfield suffered another loss on Tuesday, with junior safety Richard Toney Jr. announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 9. The former Nevada will depart after only one season with the Horned Frogs. Toney Jr. appeared in nine games this season, totaling nine tackles and one pass breakup. Prior to his time with TCU, Toney Jr. started nine games and appeared in 12 games for the Wolfpack during the 2023 season.

Toney Jr. becomes the second defensive back to transfer out in this cycle, following former four-star recruit and sophomore safety Jamel Johnson, who reportedly opted to enter the transfer portal on Monday. Toney Jr. made seven total tackles during TCU’s home win over Long Island in September. The 6-foot, 195-pounder was at Nevada for two seasons, earning 73 total tackles and two interceptions over that span.
