The redshirt freshman and former four-star recruit will depart after two seasons with the Horned Frogs.
HornedFrogBlitz insider Jeremy Clark reported Tuesday morning that redshirt freshman defensive lineman and former four-star recruit Avion Carter will enter the transfer portal after two seasons with the TCU football team. Carter was one of the top recruits of the 2023 class for the Horned Frogs, who have seen three players depart during the spring window. Despite signing as one of the top defensive line prospects in Texas, Carter saw limited time on the field, appearing in three games during the 2024 season and one game in 2023.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from Amarillo, Texas played his high school football at Tascosa and was ranked the No. 35 defensive lineman in the nation in 2023, according to 247Sports. Carter, who was also ranked the No. 43 overall prospect in the state of Texas, signed with TCU over LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and more. Carter was the Texas District 2-5A-I Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and was a Texas District 2-5A-I First-Team selection in 2020. Carter is the third player to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining freshman tight end Cole Snodgrass and freshman offensive lineman Mitch Hodnett.
