Horned Frogs add the veteran specialist for his sixth collegiate season
With longtime TCU long snapper Brent Matiscik exhausting his eligibility and freshman long snapper Jax Thompson transferring to Hawaii, the Horned Frogs special teams unit had a hole to fill at a position it has traditionally thrived, placing multiple long snappers in the NFL. On Wednesday TCU filled that role with another veteran presence, Northwestern transfer long snapper Will Halkyard.

An Academic All-Big Ten honoree in 2023, Halkyard was preseason All-Big Ten and was named to the Patrick Mannelly Award preseason watch list ahead of the 2024 season, as was TCU’s Matiscik, presented annually to nation’s top long snapper. A member of the Class of 2020 out of Glen Ellyn, IL, Halkyard spent five seasons with Northwestern, serving as the Wildcats’ long snapper in every game for the last three seasons, 37 straight games. He becomes the fourth transfer addition of the 2024 post-season window.
