An All-CUSA Offensive Lineman, Jamal Powell helped power the prolific offenses of the early 2000s.
73 | OL Jamal Powell (1998-2002)
During an era of dominant offensive line play for TCU Football, featuring two Western Athletic Conference championships and a Conference USA title, spanning the end of the Dennis Franchione tenure and the beginning of the Gary Patterson era, and the record-breaking career of running back LaDainian Tomlinson, interior O-Lineman Jamal Powell was a standout. Named First Team All-Conference USA in 2002, paving the way for the CUSA’s top rushing yardage and most prolific scoring offense that season.
Following his Horned Frogs tenure, Powell played professionally with the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans before entering a coaching career. He was on staff at James Madison as the Dukes won the 2016 FCS Championship, also serving assistant positions at Texas A&M, Southwest Baptist, West Virginia State, and Lamar before joining the SMU Mustangs staff under current TCU Head Coach Sonny Dykes. Powell passed away in April 2021 at 39 years old after a battle with cancer and Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
