An All-Southwest Conference guard, Robert Mangum cleared the path for standout offensive performers of the early 1960s
67 | Robert Mangum (1961-1963)
Perhaps the least-worn non-retired numbers in TCU Football’s long history, it is a rarity to see a Horned Frog on the field wearing 67. Perhaps there is superstition because the numbers add up to an unlucky 13, though there have been plenty lining up in 13 throughout the years. On the current roster, 67 is assigned to Hudson White, a 6-foot-2 290-pound offensive lineman from Abilene, playing one game in first three seasons on campus.
The 1960s was not an especially fruitful decade for TCU Football, featuring just one bowl appearance – a loss to Texas Western in the 1965 Sun Bowl – and an overall record of 40-56-5. Those squads did however feature some standout performers, particularly along the lines in the early part of the decade, with TCU tackles, guards, and centers filling All-Conference rosters. One such All-Southwest Conference guard was Robert Mangum, clearing the road for All-American fullback Tommy Crutcher and All-Conference QB Sonny Gibbs.
