TCU brought in a large group of newcomers in 2024 to help bolter a defensive backfield that was losing star Josh Newton to the NFL, with a key addition being Old Dominion transfer cornerback LaMareon James. The Norfolk, Virginia native had a standout 2023 with the Monarchs, earning Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt with 59 tackles, 10 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and an interception returned for a touchdown. Also serving as the ODU return specialist, James earned All-Conference honors as a kick returner with two career return touchdowns and a 23.2 yards per return average. With injuries already depleting the TCU depth at cornerback, James will be a key figure in the defense under new Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos and will be tested early with Friday’s match up with Stanford and star wide receivers Elic Ayomanor and Tiger Bachmeier.
