All-Big 12 linebacker Ty Summers delivered in the clutch for the Horned Frogs

Responsible for the iconic 4th-down stop in 2OT in the freezing rain to seal the victory over the No. 7 Baylor Bears in 2015, linebacker Ty Summers was a keystone of some outstanding Horned Frogs defenses during his time in Fort Worth. His 23 tackles that night vs. Baylor were the most by a Horned Frog since Scott Taft’s 30 vs. UTEP in 1997 and earned Summers National Defensive Player of the Week honors. A two star quarterback prospect out of San Antonio, rated outside the top 1,800 recruits in the Class of 2014. Summers used a medical redshirt for his first season on campus before before becoming an integral component of the defense as a Redshirt Freshman in 2015. He was an Honorable Mention for Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the year, with 86 tackles, a sack, and a interception. Summers’ sophomore campaign was the best of his career, accumulating 121 total tackles and earning Second Team All Big-12 honors. Over his final two seasons with the Frogs, Summers would total 108 tackles (34 for loss), eight sacks, and an interception.
Summers was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the Seventh Round of the 2019 NFL Draft, where he played for four seasons before a pair of seasons with the New Orleans Saints; he enters the 2024 season with with Jacksonville Jaguars. In 67 career NFL games, Summers has 60 total tackles.
