Daryl Washington delivered an all-time great LB season in 2009, named a First-Team All-American
41 | LB Daryl Washington (2006-2009)
Patiently awaiting his opportunity, Daryl Washington broke into the starting lineup at linebacker as a senior in 2009 and exploded onto the national scene, leading the Horned Frogs in tackling as TCU would go undefeated in the regular season and earn the program’s first BCS bid. Accumulating 109 tackles (11 for loss), two sacks, and three interceptions with one returned for a touchdown, Washington would earn First Team All-American and First Team All-Mountain West honors. He had a career-best tackling performance at Clemson with 13 stops, including catching from behind one of the fastest players in college football, Unanimous All-American and ACC Player of the Year, Tigers’ RB C.J. Spiller, saving a touchdown in TCU’s 14-10 victory in Death Valley.
Washington was selected 47th overall in the Second Round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals emerging as a top linebacker in the league, being named an All-Pro and elected to the Pro Bowl in 2012. In 59 NFL games played, Washington made 394 total tackles with six interceptions and 18 sacks over four seasons before a season-long suspension and further legal troubles derailed his promising pro career.
