An All-American and First Team All-MWC linebacker, Tanner Brock led the Horned Frogs in tackles in 2010
35 | LB Tanner Brock (2009-2011)
Tanner Brock’s flame burned bright during his two full active seasons with the Horned Frogs – two seasons that would bring TCU to unprecedented heights with back-to-back undefeated regular seasons, two BCS Bowl bids, and a Rose Bowl Championship. A special teams ace on both coverage and return protection as a true freshman in 2009, Brock delivered a team-leading 14 special teams tackles and the above SportsCenter Top Ten play providing the massive block without a helmet, freeing Jeremy Kerley for a punt return touchdown vs. SMU – a play that would warrant multiple penalties in today’s college football. Brock would finish that freshman campaign with 32 tackles, earning Second Team Freshman All-American honors.
Brock became a fulltime defensive starter in 2010, leading the Frogs in tackling with 106 total stops, 5.5 going for loss including two sacks and adding two fumble recoveries and a back-breaking interception in the second half of TCU’s blowout victory over No. 5 Utah in Salt Lake City. Brock would earn All-American recognition from multiple outlets and was to the All-Mountain West Conference First Team.
Although his time in Fort Worth was cut short, due to well-documented off-the-field incidents, Brock brought the Frog Factor every time he stepped on the field for TCU, playing with a passion that raised the play of those around him. If the first thing that comes to mind when you hear this name is his off-field situation, I’d encourage a read of this 2013 interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and perhaps allow the on-field memories to endure.
