A four-year starter handling plackekicker and kickoff duties for the Horned Frogs, Jaden Oberkrom would go on to be the all-time leader in field goals made in TCU program history and Big 12 Conference history. His 79 career made field goals include some of the most clutch moments in TCU lore, maintaining dream seasons and delivering in the biggest moments. Oberkrom made the All-Big 12 Team in each of his four seasons as an Honorable Mention in 2012 & 2013 and First Team in 2014 & 2015.
In his four seasons, Oberkrom made over 99% of his extra-point attempts, missing just two of his 216 career PATs. Oberkrom also booted 300 kickoffs, 152 of which went into unreturned as touchbacks.
While his 2012 campaign did include eight missed field goal attempts, Oberkrom demonstrated the potential for a bright future in Fort Worth, with multiple makes from beyond 50 yards, including a 53-yarder in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl as part of a 3-3 outing. He personally contributed 23 points vs. Texas Tech, making all six of his field goal attempts – all of which were beyond 30 yards – and five extra-points.
The Horned Frogs Big 12 Championship and hopes for the College Football Playoff in 2014 were kept alive by Oberkrom, drilling a 37-yard field goal as time expired in Morgantown to complete the fourth quarter comeback and defeat No. 20 West Virginia. In 2015 it was again the Mountaineers again at the other end of big Oberkrom moments, as his career-long 57-yard field goal, a record-long in program history, came vs. WVU as part of his delivering 4-4 on FGs and 4-4 on PATs in the blowout win. In his final collegiate game, Oberkrom helped complete the Horned Frogs’ incredible comeback vs. Oregon in the Alamo Bowl, making four field goals and three extra-points, including game-tying FGs to force overtime and a 46-yarder to send the game into a 3rd OT.
Following that standout TCU career, Oberkrom declined the opportunity to pursue a professional career in the NFL, deciding to pursue his passion of teaching his craft to future generations of placekickers and starting his own business: Oberkrom Kicking Academy. He has trained many of the nation’s top kickers, including TCU legend Griffin Kell and TCU incoming freshman kicker Kyle Lemmermann, the top-rated kicker in the 2024 Class.
