All-American all-purpose playmaker KaVontae Turpin holds TCU records for career return yards & TDs
25 | WR/KR KaVontae Turpin (2015-2018)
KaVontae Turpin was one of the most explosive game-breakers in TCU history. Listed at a diminutive 5-foot-9, 153- pounds, what Turpin lacked in size he made up for with speed. The three-star out of Monroe, LA was an immediate impact for the Frogs, seeing action in his first game on campus, with two rushes, two receptions, and three punt returns as No. 2 TCU won at Minnesota. Turpin would go on to earn Freshman All-American honors with a dominant 2015 campaign including a 138-yard, 4 TD receiving effort in the blowout win over Texas and the game-winning touchdown in the 2OT victory over No. 7 Baylor. An Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in an injury-shortened 2016, Turpin bounced back in 2017 as the First Team All-Big 12 returner returning a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns. Turpin was dismissed from the team midway through the 2018 season following a domestic violence arrest, for which he would eventually plead guilty. Turpin’s TCU career ended with 4,792 all-purpose yards, holding program records for career return yards and touchdowns, ranking 10th all-time in career receptions.
Turpin’s professional career has taken a long and winding road to reach the NFL, spending time with the Indoor Football League, Fan Controlled Football, The Spring League, European League Football, eventually breaking out with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals, earning league MVP. This put Turpin back on the radar of the NFL, signing a contract with the Dallas Cowboys, serving as a return specialist and wide receiver, with 1,445 all-purpose yards and 4 TDs during his two seasons with the Cowboys
