All-Mountain West Running Back Joseph Turner led the Horned Frogs in rushing for three straight seasons
24 | RB Joseph Turner (2005-2009)
A model of development and consistency during the Gary Patterson era, Joseph Turner arrived at TCU as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2005, joining a loaded RB room including Robert Merrill and MWC Freshman of the Year Aaron Brown. Turner patiently waited for his opportunity, redshirting his first season and seeing few carries in 2006 despite playing every game. Turner would break out in the 2007 season, leading the Frogs in rushing including a season-finale performance at San Diego State with 226 yards and 4 touchdowns. In 2008 Turner’s workload increased again as he would once more lead TCU in rushing, highlighted by 83 yards and the game-winning touchdown in the Poinsettia Bowl, scampering in from 17 yards out and diving into the endzone to defeat No. 9 Boise State. Turner would lead TCU in rushing for a third straight season in 2009, helping the Frogs complete an undefeated Mountain West Championship season and earn the program’s first bid to a BCS bowl. Turner finished his TCU career with 2,094 yards rushing and his 29 career rushing touchdowns ranks fifth all-time in program history.
After his time at TCU, Turner continued his football career as a high school coach, joining Fort Worth North Side High School, named head coach in 2015 where he would end one of Texas HS Football’s longest playoff droughts in 2019. Ahead of the 2024 season, Turner was hired as head coach at Fort Worth Southwest.
